CoD4 and CoDMW2 both broke sales records when they were released. Both were hailed to be the next step in video game progression. Both were well loved (hated by some) and enjoy continuing success. The question is: do we need another one just like them?
According to a recent tweet by Infinity Ward’s Robert Bowling, the same Call of Duty engine used since CoD2 will be in place for the next Modern Warfare. Bowling was stated via Twitter that “Someone just needs to spend the $ and construct a new engine for the CoD franchise… Ground up…” with which he responded “That would be counter productive. An engine takes years and years to develop and get right.”
So those of you have become fans of the Infinity Ward games in the past years should be expecting the same basic Call of Duty gameplay. Although the engine will be polished to make it a generational-relevant game, the basics will still be in place. Infinity Ward’s Call of Duty franchise has been mega-successful and their games have maintained a high level of quality. Yet we’re left wondering: should they keep a good thing in place, or should they try to update themselves as much as possible?
