The past year has seen the unparalleled rise of Minecraft in the capable hands of Notch and his team at Mojang, and a lot of chatter has been circulating lately about the indie developer’s next project. At the GDC earlier today, Mojang unveiled Scrolls, the developer’s attempt to revitalize the card game genre. Head past the jump for more information on the praise indie team’s newest undertaking.

With Scrolls, Mojang is seeking to revolutionize the CCG genre in its first true team effort. Tasking players with building, equipping, managing, and commanding armies through the use of their own custom-planned decks, Mojang is looking to provide a unique blend of the collectibility of card games and the strategy of tabletop games — players will be able to choose their own units, equipment, and spells and utilize tactical unit and siege-weapon placement to outwit and defeat their opponents.

In addition to the competent team at Mojang, the development team is joined by Jerry “Tycho” Holkins of Penny Arcade fame, who will be lending his word-smithing prowess to the game’s writing; Holkins has stated however that his contribution will be little more than that of a literary mercenary, saying that he will be nothing more than a “fluffer.” Draw whatever conclusions from such a term as you may.
