Welcome to GamingViral.com, a new website dedicated to bringing the latest news about video game related viral campaigns to you. GamingViral is being brought to you by the same guys who made MovieViral.com, a similar website that covers film related viral marketing.
What is viral marketing?
That’s a good question. Viral marketing is complicated to explain (try Wikipedia for a thorough explanation) but basically it’s when an entity (a video game, film, product, brand, etc.) uses alternative methods for advertising. Most viral is located on the Internet, but there’s countless ways to go about it. We’ll cover all viral / ARG marketing for video games, but we focus mainly on full campaigns that provide at least one of two things (preferably both):
1. More information on the story or characters of the game
2. An interactive experience or narrative, like an Alternate Reality Game (ARG)
Why should I be interested?
Well, as I mentioned above viral campaigns often times offer more information on the story of characters of a video game. For example, well before any information was given out about Call of Duty: Black Ops, a website called GKNova6.com popped up. It offered insight into the time period the new CoD game would occur in. Halo is also known for having extensive viral campaigns, like that of “I Love Bees”. And not to mention they’re fun to follow.
Well, that’s it for our first post. We really hope you enjoy the content we offer.
